Madeleine is one of our new students this fall at the Headwaters School. She is eleven years old and has just began piano lessons. She always comes into lessons with a smile on her face and her lessons prepared! Madeleine says she enjoys music because it helps her at school in music class, and also because a lot of her friends also take piano lessons (several musical friends at the Headwaters School!). Madeleine's other interests include hockey, hanging out with her friends, and featuring her dog at dog shows!
It has been an incredible summer here at the Headwaters School with music, drama, and art alive with excitement every day! Our fall classes and private lessons start now, beginning August 31, but we would like to share some pictures from the many varieties of fun events of this summer.
The Beginning Group Guitar class with their instructor, Caleb Erickson. The students enjoyed it so much they will be continuing the class this month!
These are the talented students from our Spring Recital on Sunday, May 17, 2009. They shared their musical gifts in singing, guitar, piano, bass, and violin. It was an outstanding variety of performances!
Amayah is one of our star students here at the Headwaters School. She began taking piano lessons when she was 7 years old, and has continued taking lessons over the past five years in piano and guitar. She is now 12 years old, and it has been a joy to see her musical progress over the years.
Music was played, prizes were given away, Janet served cookies, and laughter sounded in the walls of our warm, bright, and beautiful recital hall during the "Headwaters Oscars Party", seemingly retitled as a "Piano Party."
Thank you to Katie and Ashley, our performers! Katie, 13, played Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag. Ashley, 15, played Chopin's Revolutionary Etude in C minor. They were both fantastic!
Andrew started taking piano lessons at the Headwaters School when he was only six years old. He was Fawn's very first piano student, and now at the age of 12, he has taken piano lessons for over five years! Not only does he play piano, he also began taking bass lessons with Cy this year.
Andrew says he likes music because of the many different varieties. His other favorite hobby is karate.
"My dad used to sing that to me every night!"
Such are the words often heard at our Music and Memories class at Neilson Place. Every Thursday afternoon at 1 pm, Fawn leads a class with the residents. Each week is focused on a theme, and she plays and sings familiar music to the residents.
