In accordance with Suzuki principles, each student must have memorized and should review the entire repertoire up to and including the current piece for her or his playing level. Students must be prepared to play a polished piece for the first individual lesson so the teacher can assess the student’s needs. Orchestra, ensemble, and supplemental music will be sent to students prior to the institute. Students need not memorize this music, but are expected to learn the notes and rhythms for these pieces before coming to the institute.
Open-air practice space available on the campus provides a relaxing opportunity for parent and child to prepare for the next day’s lessons in a pleasant environment. Musicians may also practice in their lodging accommodations on campus or in one of several practice rooms that are available.
